New Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo has insisted that Harry Kane will stay at the club beyond this summer during his first press conference as manager.
Kane has been heavily linked with a move away from Spurs. He has told the club that he wants to leave and Manchester City appear to be leading the chase to sign him.
Pep Guardiola’s side have had a bid rejected for him which was worth £100m guaranteed. They are also willing to offer players to Tottenham as makeweights.
Why can’t England win the World Cup? And other mails…
After a slow start to Euro 2020, Kane was impressive in the knockout stages as he finished with four goals at the tournament.
On Friday afternoon, Santo had his first press conference as Spurs boss, which has been reported on by The Evening Standard. The former Wolves boss insisted that he was “excited” to work with Kane:
“Harry is our player. Period.
“No need to talk about anything else. Now is the time for him to recover his energy. When he comes again we will have time to have a good conversation.
“Now he must prepare for what is coming, I am looking forward to him joining the group.
“I am excited to work with all the players. It is best to work with the best players around and Harry is one of those.
“What I wish is for Harry to recover well and when he arrives he will feel that every one of us has to commit ourselves to become better. We are ambitious people, we want to do well and we count on Harry.”
Earlier this month, Kane suggested that Santo is a “great manager” and that he is “sure they will be in contact” after Euro 2020:
“Whenever a new manager comes in, I guess there’s a level of excitement around the club. Obviously, I’ve not been there and not had any contact with him.
“I’m away with England now and my full focus is on here. Hopefully, we’ve got a week left.
“He’s a great manager and did a great job at Wolves and got them playing a really good way.
“Let’s get back and I’m sure we’ll be in contact after the tournament.”
